Finishing meat by wrapping in foil

Many recipes call for wrapping meat in foil and then finishing up for another hour or 2 according to recipe. Rather than waste fuel finishing on smoker (in my case a pellet grill), is there any difference to finishing this way in an oven rather than on the smoker?
