Assistance requested with building a smoker

I am going to build a smoker and I have watched a million videos on youtube and been smoking for years. I want to build a decent smoker and the price of raw steel pretty much forces you to go with an old propane tank or steel barrels. I do not need a hugs smoker, but I need to be able to do an entire hog (max 150 lbs ). Should I weld two steel barrels together or go with an old propane tank? If I go with the propane tank, what is the minimal size for having enough rood to do a whole pig of that size?

Any advice or help would be really appreciated.
