Gonna build a smoker

Well, I've decided to build my own indirect fired smoker. I'm still researching it but considering using a 55gal drum for the main part but not sure about the firebox, anybody here done this? Or is anyone even considering building your own. I'm just looking for some suggestions on the build before I start making mistakes. I'm still not even sure about the drum, I just want to build one that retains heat well and will last a while.

Re: Gonna build a smoker

Check out the UDS smoker on line. It's probably the easiest and most cost effective way to go.

Re: Gonna build a smoker

I build several smokers a year and i had rather use an air compressor tank or propane tank the will hold heat better and last much longer
