I am kind of a BBQ dork. I made a spread sheet that rated all the BBQ places I've been to. I am new here so I figure I would share my preferences for the area while some of the more seasoned vets helped me out with some questions I had.

All time favorite:
Danny Edwards. Small mom and pop style place that the food network is doing a documentary on. I think the program was called Meat and Potatoes, but I went in there a few weeks ago and we all had to sign release forms in case we were in a shot. It was kind of neat. The food there is fantastic, the sauce is great, and the staff is very nice. Its not THAT well known for it being one of the smaller places and as a result generally isn't that busy, but its my favorite. They are only open for lunch 11-3 during the week and on saturdays during the summer.

Other good places:
Oklahoma Joes: Its in a gas station, literally, and is freaking PACKED around meal times. As in, line out the door and around the building. Delicious though

LC's: Straight dive atmosphere, but its a counter in front of a smoker. what more could you ask for? They've had a few run ins with the health department, but I've never had a complaint about their food!

Jack's Stack is another popular place, but I am not really sure why. A lot of out of towners go there I suppose, and it isn't bad, but its more of a fancy sit down, get a steak or bring a date kind of place IMO. Taste wise, it can't hold a candle to the above but if someone invited me to go there, I probably would.

Arthur Bryants is another popular local place that gets pretty busy around meal times. Their sauce is an acquired taste though, VERY vinegary (relative to the other places around here). Not bad though. HUGE portions. The old tradition is that you go here before a royals game. This is also the popular stopping point for celebreities and presidents. Bush, JFK, Dany glover (I think) and many many others have their pictures hanging up on the wall at AB's.

There are a lot of other places but those are the ones worth mentioning. My top three (in order) would probably be Danny Edwards, Oklahoma Joes and then LCs. After that in KC its a crap shoot but you can't go wrong with those three.

I will say that during the winter Okie Joes has some darn good texas chili!

Nice list! I think I would like Arthur Bryants as my sauce tends to be heavy on the vinegar.

I once made three meals out of a single sandwich there. Seriously. And I was stuffed after each one too.

Certainly wouldn't tell anyone not to go there. Except if you are by yourself late at night, because most of the good places have bars on their windows and doors for a reason!
